Chunky Hat on Straight Needles (#3): double moss
Note: This pattern also has an additional section at the end for instructions on how to make this hat in the round!
This hat is quick and easy to make. All you need to know is how to knit and purl in order to make it! It’s knitted in one piece, on flat needles, starting from the rim of the hat and working up to the top. The stitch is called ‘double moss stitch’, one of my absolute favourites, and one of the absolute simplest!
Double moss stitch is repeated over only 4 rows- that’s it! It’s an extremely satisfying stitch to knit because the pattern emerges so quickly, and it’s super squishy and gorgeous.
This hat is knitted with a band that folds over. I personally love this style because I find it makes the hat fit better and gives an extra layer of warmth. If you wanted to knit a shorter band, however, that would also work perfectly fine.
I hope you enjoy knitting this pattern! <3
