This simple women’s chunky winter hat knitting pattern is an excellent beginner project.
A free version of this pattern can be found on my blog here.
You can also shop the pattern here.
• DESCRIPTION
The hat is easy to make, with advanced beginner knitters in mind.
Using knit and purl stitches, you will create ribbing, knit in the round, and decrease and shape.
This hat will be super cozy to wear in the cold weather.
Yarn
2 skeins of super bulky yarn (in light grey and white
I used Yarn Art Alpine Alpaca in white 433 and grey in Yarn Art Alpine 334) suitable for size 10.00mm (US 15) needles.
Lion Brand wool ease thick and quick or something similar will also be fine to use.
Super bulky weight – 106 yards.
Needles
Set of 10.00mm (US 15) 16″ circular knitting needles.
Please note – you may have to change your needles for the decreases of the hat if working on the circulars
becomes too tight.
This would mean using a set of size 10mm double-pointed needles (DPNs).
If you do not have those, you could use a 60cm/24″ cable and use the magic loop technique.
• SKILLS
Level – Easy
This is an easy level knitting pattern and the techniques involved are the knit stitch, purl stitch, increasing, decreasing and working in the round.
• SIZING
Adult woman
Height w/o pom = 9 inches / Width (flat and unstretched) = 9 inches
To fit a head with the circumference of around 22-26 inches.
