This perfect summertime (and really, anytime) top is worked from the top down and is suitable for the advanced beginner. There are two different styles to this pattern -- a tank top version or a capped short sleeved version. The capped sleeve version uses short rows in the round to form the sleeves.

The pattern is for sizes XXS-3XL. (For sizes 4XL+, feel free to send me a message as I am looking for people to test knit larger sizes!)

Recommended size to knit for given bust size (in INCHES):

XXS
Bust - 28” - 30”

XS:
Bust - 30” - 32”

S:
Bust - 32” - 34”

M:
Bust - 35” - 38”

L:
Bust - 39” - 42”

XL:
Bust - 43” - 46”

2XL:
Bust - 47” - 50”

3XL:
Bust - 51” - 54”

Materials:

  • US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needles with a 32” (80 cm) cord
  • (Optional) US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needles with at most 16” cord (for sleeves, if applicable)
  • Darning/Tapestry needle
  • At least 6 stitch markers
  • Approximately 250 - 325 (280 - 360) 300 - 380 (320 - 410) 405 - 500 (490- 570)
    510 - 600 (530 - 610) meters of Aran/Worsted weight yarn

The skill level for this pattern is a confident beginner ready to learn/practice simple increase stitches, picking up stitches along edges, learning short rows, and playing with new techniques. I would not recommend this pattern as a first project, however, if you are feelin’ good about your abilities, I think this could be a first knit short sleeved top project… but maybe make some coasters and scarves first. Whatever you’re into.
