Cinch
An adventure in alternate construction!
These socks are worked progressively in flat strips, joined at the edges by picking up stitches and knitting them into the next strip. The cuff is worked in the round to provide a base for these strips, the first of which travels down the back of the leg, forms a no-wrap short-row heel, and continues down the sole to the toe. Scalloped edges, a cinchy cable pattern up the front and back, and contrast color side panels keep things interesting.
Cinch was Stage 5 of the 2012 Tour-de-Sock event, a speed-knitting competition benefiting Doctors Without Borders. It is now available to the general knitterly public!
This pattern has 24 pages - do not panic! The first 8 pages are general directions, and the next 16 pages are charts/written instructions for two sizes. If you are comfortable reading charts, you will only need the four chart pages appropriate to the size you are making plus the first 8 pages of the pattern.
ERRATA! End all strips on RS row. Not WS row. Apologies. Incorrect version is named “4Sept12” and a corrected version dated “11Jan13” has been uploaded.
