cippikaḷ is “cockle shell” in Tamil“ in Tamil (சிப்பிகள்)
This is the commonest loveliest sea shell one can always find at the beach.. and it’s probably been the inspiration for all the ‘shelled creations’ in craft.

The project is worked sideways. It starts as a seemingly ‘straight’ pattern, and after a few rows, starts to ‘move’ diagonally, with one flat (non-increase) edge, and one ‘diagonal’ (increase) edge.
The finish has two options. You can just end off with a diagonal edge, or mimic the start edge.

This pattern has been tested using :
1. 3-ply acrylic (light fingering) 85g / 485 yds ; 4 mm (G) crochet hook ;
2. Lion Brand : Sock-Ease, (438 yds/100 g) used : 398.5 yds , 4.25 mm (G) crochet hook ,
Skill level by tester: Intermediate

3. Regia Lace (doubled up) ; 4.5 mm crochet hook,
