Circadian
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
In morning, colorful sunrise bursts through the 4 paned windows that lace across the colorwork yoke. Dappled dots of sun rays dance down the sweater, radiating energy and joy.
In evening, deep yellow-green skies fade to turquoise through the same windows. Starlight skips and twinkles its way down the sweater, radiating mystery and creativity.
Circadian morning-
“There is nothing better than rising before the sun,” she smiled to herself. So much to do. Already her bed was made and clock reset, everything prepared and in its place. The shower had woken her up fully and it was now time for a cup of coffee and a news update. These early movements felt expansive and vast. She loves having the room that time’s door swung wide open for her upon an early rise. The satisfaction of purposeful, efficient movements in the morning brought her so much joy. Time to accomplish, but also time to relish. Six o’clock AM’s blue light was starting to chase the shadows away. Through the old 6 paned windows, the sky was bursting in radiant, rosy pinks and fiery orange clouds. As the ground dark roast steeped in the french press, new headlines informed her of the latest developments. A new project had come up at work that was completely outside the box in its latest approach, and she couldn’t wait to dive into it. Grabbing her jacket, she swung it over her shoulder and stepped out the door into the morning.
Circadian evening-
Like the warbling woodthrush that gathered in the tall trees around her house, she could feel her energy reaching a crescendo as the clock hands advanced. As the door opened and she stepped softly onto the deck, large snowflakes began to fall. It was a good time of day to look for the birds and surprisingly, snowfall often drew them out of hiding. The variable fluctuations in air pressure compelled them to forage. No problem, she thought peacefully, as her slipper socks made soft imprints on the decking. She filled the feeder and contemplated her next move, but not before briefly locking eyes with a small chickadee. They were busy, so full of energy. She felt like a chickadee sometimes, moving quickly and flitting from project to project. Inside, her latest art hobby was waiting for her. So were some more tedious tasks, but as a night owl she had energy for both. Heading back inside, she sat down at the messy canvas. It mirrored the large single pane window behind it- pale green-blues hovering over a darkened horizon, fading to deep blue. Picking up her brush, she smiled, took a breath, and started dotting the sky with twinkles of shifting starlight against the deep.
