Circle of Life Sweater
The first Disney animated feature film to feature an original story not based on an existing tale, 1994’s The Lion King was a groundbreaking, massive success. The Academy Award®-winning film tells the story of a young lion who is chased away from his pride after his father, the king, is killed by his ambitious uncle. To create the Pride Lands, Simba’s home, artists visited Hell’s Gate National Park in Kenya for inspiration and used various focal lengths, lenses, and artificial lens flare to make the viewer feel like they were watching a nature documentary. Art director Andy Gaskill stated, “We wanted audiences to sense the vastness of the savannah and to feel the dust and the breeze swaying through the grass. In other words, to get a real sense of nature and to feel as if they were there. It’s very difficult to capture something as subtle as a sunrise or rain falling on a pond, but those are the kinds of images that we tried to get.” Clocking in at four minutes, the famous “Circle of Life” opening sequence featured a hit song, stunning animation, and a plethora of animals, perfectly setting the tone for the beautiful, emotional movie that followed.
Featuring motifs of favorite characters from The Lion King, this stranded colorwork pullover includes Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, and Rafiki, as well as parades of hyenas, giraffes, and elephants. Worked in the round in a tube from the bottom up, the sweater starts with a 1x1 ribbed hem, then moves into the colorwork. After the body of the sweater is complete, the neckline is shaped. Sleeves are worked separately in the round and fitted in after steeks are cut into the body of the sweater. Once all the pieces are assembled together, a hemmed ribbed collar is picked up and worked in the round. Wear with pride and take your place in the great circle of life.
