A simple hexagonal medalion makes a light wiastcoat, great for using those single balls of fun double knitting you don’t know what to do with.

Instructions with photos now available. Feedback and questions welcomed.

Advisable to use stitch markers from the very begining until you’re established (or keep them until the end).
* When doing the eyelet hexagons, from around 2” radius, if you get to 1 stitch before your marker do not yo and knit that stitch.

Shown modeled on UK size 6-8 (grey) and UK size 14-16 (blue). Can be worn 3 ways (or more! Let me know if you come up with others).

The example size in this pattern is approximately a UK 10 or 12. I got approximately 12” radius from 270 m of yarn. Each round will take more yarn than the last, increasing the size will need more yarn. If your measurement accross your back is over 20” I think you’ll need closer to 400 m

++ Maths ++
if you double the amount of yarn used, you increase the radius by two fifths. If I weigh the ball when I am part way through and have ~50 g out of 100 g left, and it measures 10” in radius, my final piece will be 14” in radius, approximately.
Area=pi x radius x radius
added area = final area-original area
The area covered is proportial to the yarn used, so weight or yardage can be used for comparisons.

Size controlled by measurement of working piece, so gauge isn’t critical.

~# How to wear #~
There are 3(+ 1/2) ways to wear this item.
1) As an open waistcoat. Put your arms through the holes with the holes in the upper half of the piece. Fold down a small collar.
2) As a shrug. Put your arms through the holes with the holes in the lower half. Fold down half of the piece over your shoulders.
3) As a scarf. Fold the piece in half vertically, with armholes meeting. Place this semi-circle around neck and put pointy end through both armholes and fluff.
3.5) As with open waistcoat and then take a length of ribbon or cord and lace the opening closed. Tie with a bow when you are happy with arangement. Fold out collar.

Pattern named after a game I was playing with my partner where we found as many “~ous” words as possible and used them to describe potatos. I’m going to try and name all patterns like this.
