Circular Cardigan with Tapestry Weaving
From ‘Andean Inspired Knits: Designs in Luxurious Alpaca’: Many pre-Columbian textiles are decorated with embroidery. I incorporated the intertwined motif from a Chancay tapestry into a decorative band around the edge of this long open cardigan. The body of this garment is worked in one piece from cuff to cuff in a lightly textured stitch pattern. The band is worked separately in stockinette stitch, then embroidered before being sewn to the body, with a self facing that folds to the inside and adds stability. The drapey sideways-knit body combined with the firm embroidered band allows the garment to flow gracefully at the back and hug the body nicely in the front. Note: Front edges of cardigan deliberately do not meet at center front.
SIZES: Small (Medium, Large).
FINISHED BUST CIRCUMFERENCE: 40 (45, 51)”/ 101.5 (114.5, 129.5) cm.
ADDITIONAL SIZING INFORMATION: the ‘wingspan’ of this garment is planned to be 57½ (60, 63)” / 146 (152.5, 160) cm.
The weight of the band and sideways direction of knitting will cause the garment to grow about 1 – 2 ” (2.5 – 5 cm) in length when worn.
