About Cissbury Ring
Cissbury Ring is an Iron Age Hill Fort on the South Downs in Sussex, England.
You can read about the inspiration behind this pattern on our blog.
This pattern is also available as a kit together with South Downs Yarn ‘Chalk Path’ and ‘Rock Pool’. The yarn comes from David Burden’s Duncton flock of Southdown sheep that graze a few miles away from Cissbury Ring in and around the village of Duncton, West Sussex.
This yarn is also called ‘Duncton’ after David and his flock’s association with the place. It is woollen spun in England and naturally dyed in Sussex.
Our natural, undyed yarn is called ‘Chalk Path’ after the creamy white paths associated with the South Downs. Our range of green yarn is called ‘Rock Pool’ after the shallow rock pools found on the Sussex coast. It is dyed using a yellow base (usually from dyer’s chamomile, dyer’s broom, saw-wort or tansy) and overdyed with blue, either from woad or indigo.
We take delight in producing small batch dyes. This means that each dye bath is unique and no two headbands will be the same.
We love to see photographs of projects using our yarn so please do share them with us. You can find us on Twitter @SouthDownsYarn, as louise_sdy on Instagram and as SouthDownsYarn on Ravelry.
