Sometimes you want a shawl that’s a wispy floaty accessory and sometimes you want a shawl that’s basically a blanket. Cisza is my answer to the latter—not only is it worked in worsted weight yarn, but the brioche creates an extra thick, squishy fabric to really lock in warmth. Full disclosure: I’m modeling the larger sample outside in 24F/-4C weather and, well, yes, I was freezing, but not as freezing as I could’ve been.
Cisza is worked sideways from a single point, switching out colors to create large block stripes, and finished off with a swath of half Fisherman’s Rib. A slipped stitch i-cord trim keeps the shawl’s edges neat and a decorative bind-off creates a simple, unfussy finish.
Yarn information is provided as a guideline; use more or less yarn to create a custom-sized wrap, the instructions are identical for any size—just knit until you run out!
Sizes: Small (Large); finished dimensions 46 (62)”/117 (157.5) cm at widest point and 21 (26)”/53 (66) cm at deepest point
Gauge: 14 sts and 19 rows = 4”/10 cm in brioche stitch, blocked and gently stretched
Gauge is not essential but will impact the amount of yarn used and the final dimensions of your shawl; the number of rows refers to counting rows after blocking, in a single color; you will actually work double that number of rows as each row takes 2 passes to complete.
