Cité is a modern, playful sweater with different textures and colours and an interesting construction. Although totally beginner-friendly, it is packed with interesting details:

  • reverse stockinette for the lateral panels
  • top band in slipped rib with lace yarn held together with main yarn (to make up for gauge AND add a precious touch)
  • contrasting Three-Needle Bind-Off for the shoulders and sleeves

CONSTRUCTION
The lower part of the body and sleeves are worked in intarsia in color A (sides) and color B (center).
The top band is worked in a third color with two yarns held together in slipped ribbing, giving a soft touch to this geometrical garment.

The body is worked flat from bottom to top in one piece with colors A and B. It is worked straight up to the underarm increases, then stitches are cast on for the front half of the sleeves. While the rest of the stitches are put on hold, the whole front body is worked straight and finished with the top band in slipped ribbing.
The back panel is seamed to the left side. Stitches are picked up along underarm cast-on and the complete back is worked in the same fashion as the front.
Front and back are assembled at the shoulders with a Three-Needle Bind-Off in contrasting color

NEEDLES (suggested sizes)
US9 / 5.5 mm circular needle (32” / 80 cm or longer) – or size to obtain gauge/desired fabric.
Spare needle in the same size for three-needle bind-off.
Note: having to deal with 4 balls of yarn, you may find it more convenient to use two circular needles, switching from one to the other as you would with two straight needles.
US10 / 6 mm circular needle (32” / 80 cm or longer) – or one size larger than main needle, for the top band worked with 2 yarns held together.
