NOTES

  • These placemats are worked in joined tiles from the bottom right corner to the top left corner in the corner-to-corner technique, working with several colors at the same time; more separate lengths of each color will produce fewer floats on the wrong side of the mats.

  • To change color, work to the last yarnover in the old color, pick up the new color, and complete the stitch with the new color.

  • Tip: To keep the thread from tangling, arrange all the balls of thread in working order on a tray and rotate the entire tray with the work in progress at the end of each row.

  • Optional: For a stiffer placemat and to hide any floats, fusible fabric and cotton fabric can be sewn to the back after blocking.
