This pattern is being made available for free in honor of the Seamen’s Church Institute and their Christmas at Sea program. While anyone can download and use the pattern for their own projects, I hope that you will visit http://www.seamenschurch.org/christmas-at-sea, learn more about the Christmas at Sea program, and consider knitting or crocheting items for the mariners.

Mosaic knitting is easy and fascinating. Here, it creates a hat that is both warm and visually interesting. The pattern works for hats in two sizes – a large size to fit most adults, and a small size to fit toddlers and small children. The instructions for both hats are the same – The Large hat uses bulky yarn and larger needles, and the small size uses worsted yarn and smaller needles. It is a great stash buster for those leftover bits and ends of skeins.

Skill Level: Easy - Intermediate knitter – requires knowledge of cast on/cast off, knit, purl, increase, decrease, knitting in the round, using double point needles or two circulars, chart reading.

The pattern includes instructions for both Adult (Bulky weight) version and child (worsted weight) version.

Large: approximately 50 – 60 grams each of two colors of Aran or bulky weight wool, one light color and one dark color.
Small: approximately 25g each of two colors of worsted weight yarn, one light color and one dark color.
