City of Fountains
The City of Fountains Scarf/Wrap is a celebration of the more than 200 iconic fountains of Kansas City. Bursting from their stone basins, jets of water fling sparkling droplets high in the air. Knitted in shades of shimmering blues, it’s refreshing!
The project features 3 different texture, lace & eyelet stitch patterns. It is worked flat in two pieces from the bottom & joined at the center back neck with either Kitchener stitch or a 3-needle BO. 3-stitch I-cords form the side edges. The pattern includes both written & charted directions.
This project is designed for the 2020 Knitting in the Heartland Conference. This biennial event will take place on April 17-19 in Overland Park, KS. See KITHKC for details.
Yarn Required:
Scarf: 1 skein of Treasured Toes in City of Fountains colorway, or approx. 468 yds of fingering weight yarn.
Wrap: 2 skeins of Treasured Toes in City of Fountains colorway, or approx. 936 yds of fingering weight yarn.
*NOTE: Project requires the entire quantity of yarn indicated. Avoid leaving excessively long tails at the cast on. Work until 1/2 of yarn quantity is used, then begin 2nd piece to avoid running out of yarn. Both projects can be shortened by 1-2 repeats of the final eyelet pattern if necessary or consider purchasing extra yarn.
UPDATE 3/4/20 - Some knitters have found that the yarn quantity specified in the original version of this pattern is not sufficient to complete the project.
It is VERY important to obtain the gauge indicated for the original pattern to work as expected. The gauge should be checked AFTER BLOCKING. This piece requires a very firm lengthwise blocking to fully show the pattern.
If your piece measures more than 10” wide at the start of the project and if yarn quantity is a concern, I recommend casting on fewer stitches & following the Yarn Saver Version of the pattern.
