Claire's Starry Night Cardigan
Note: sizing has not been included, as garment is intended to have a loose fit.
Yarns: this is a great project for leftover skeins or art yarns. Recycled and leftover yarns with uncertain yardage were used.
Gauge: not crucial for this garment; size 11 needles used throughout.
This unusual piece was created as a special gift for a very special friend of mine, an art teacher who’s pretty close to a real life Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus. This cardigan can be easily adapted to create a completely plain-coloured circular-knit piece – but is also great for using up little scraps of yarn for painting-inspired colourwork in wild stripes! Because some of the striping and wrap-and-turns in the main body were a little arbitrary, I would suggest this pattern for very confident knitters. It’s not a perfect re-creation of Van Gogh’s Starry Night painting, but it’s inspired by the swirling lines and rich, layered colours. Don’t be afraid to deviate from the suggested notes or photos.
