Clara Barton
Clara Barton represents the Angel of the Battlefield, and founder of the Red Cross, Clara Barton. Her full antebellum skirt is supported by a wire hoop skirt, and protected by a pinner-style apron (pinned with blunt jewelry making headpins, to protect little fingers). With her flowing red cape, and sturdy boots, Clara is ready to offer aide wherever it is needed.
Clara Barton is knit on size 6 needles with occasional touches from a size E crochet hook, and fits an 18 inch doll. The construction of each piece is largely seamless. While the full-skirted style of the time takes more yarn than the average pattern to reproduce, the actual knitting is fairly simple. The button closure in front and drawstring waist for the hoops make it easy for you favorite young philanthropist to dress and undress the doll.
Clara Barton was designed using an 18 inch Creatology “Modern Girls” doll available at Michael’s Craft Stores.
