Classic Cabled Cardigan
This cardigan was actually one of the first nice sweaters I designed. It was made about 25 years ago on my HK100 machine with a good quality Brunswick hand knitting wool. I was inspired by a sweater in the L.L. Bean catalog that I viewed as a classic. Since I’m still wearing the sweater, I guess it truly is a classic.
YARN, GAUGE AND MACHINE
Any bulky, including Bonds and some mid-gauge machines can make this design. No ribber is needed. Select a yarn that gets 4 stitches/6 rows per inch. If your machine will knit that nicely, you can make the design. Wool or acrylic yarn is recommended so that it will be resilient enough for easy cabling. Stitch size will vary with machine model. For most bulkies it will be 4-6. Bonds will most likely use keyplate 3 for the main knitting and key-plate 2 for ribbing.
