These Classy Baby Socks are knit top down, with a short-row heel and wedge toe. The last six stitches on the back and front are grafted together for the toe. The Open Twisted Rib pattern is easy to memorize, and does not require a cable needle. The leg or foot can be lengthened by adding more or less pattern repeats. The foot on the sock pictured above is 3.5 inches (9cm) long, just right for a chunky newborn. For a Preemie, keep the foot to under 3” (7.5cm).
A pair of newborn socks took .4 oz (11 grams) of Mary Maxim Twinkle.
I’ve been making these little baby socks for almost a decade. I try to keep a pink pair and a blue pair on hand at all times, so I’m not caught out when I need a little gift. I can knit a pair in a weekend, so they really are quick and easy.
