Clematis Scarf
“Introducing the quality of texture to the realm of tone on tone provides a great creative knit experience. the colors for the scarf are held in one gamut of color-red- with neutral white as accent in the center of each flower. While the petals and background are harmonious in their similar color values, what adds curiosity and dimension to the piece is the contrast of textures, and the qualitative differences between matte and luminosity reflected in each yarn.
Though both of the yarns are 100% silk, they are quite distinct from one another in texture. The straw-like silk of the scarf’s background, crocheted on a small needle, gives a crisp linen-like feel to the finished fabric, and provides a dramatic ground on which to place the sofr, shimmering flowers, made of single ply worsted fiber. The result is a scarf of elegance and grace, supple, sculptural, and sensuous against the skin.”
-gina Wilde :the Alchemy of knitting
Color Exercise: Knitting with fiber contrasting qualities; in this case, using a matte (non-reflective) yarn with a shiny smooth yarn, both in the same color family, to give greater dimension to the knit.
“Note: The scarf is worked in double Crochet Mesh, with an opening near one end through which the other end can be threaded. Knitted Mesh can be substituted for Double Crochet. The flowers are knit and then sewn to the mesh scarf. When knitting the flowers, slip the first stitch of every row tat is worked without shaping to create a firm edge. “
the flowers are knit petal by petal and then sewn together. the center is a single crocet meant to hold the flowers together. Then the scarf itself is crocheted and the flowers are sewn to it.
