Cleopatra's dream shawl
At your checkout it will say pattern name “Royal sunshine”. For some reason PayPal have trouble approving transactions for this pattern because of its name Cleopatra. To get around this the checkout name is another, but don’t worry, you’re getting the right pattern anyway! Sorry for the inconvenience and happy crocheting!
This is a triangle lace crochet shawl pattern with a special structured lace section with crossed over double stitches. This is combined with a more solid, framed beaded section to showcase all the beautiful texture in the stitches. You will get a unique, stunning result with this shawl!
The pattern includes two different ways to make this shawl, one solid color version and one “color play” version with a different look that’s topped off with a lot of tassels. Enjoy!
Inspiration came from the jewelry of ancient Egypt, such as for example the broad collar of Nefer Amulets from ca. 1504-1450 BCE.
Size and yarn
I’ve made two versions, one mustard and one blue/silver. You can change the number of repeats to make the shawl larger or smaller. Totally adaptable. You can also make this shawl with 14 wpi fingering yarn like a Scheepjes Whirl or Hobbii Twister.
Mustard
For the mustard colored shawl I used 7 skeins for the size I made of this one, including the edge in the same color. That’s about 800 meters (874 yards).
Size: 113 cm / 44,5 inches, 115 cm / 45 inches, 161 cm / 63,5 inches
The “color play” version
The blue/silver shawl uses 3 blue skeins and 2 silver skeins for both main pattern, edge and all the tassels (about 600 meters / 656 yards).
Size: 91 cm / 36 inches, 97 cm / 38 inches (tassel side), 127 cm / 50 inches
Yarn tip
I recommend a yarn with slow color changes, preferably a slow gradient like a Scheepjes Whirl or a Hobbi Twister of some sort. Solid colors where you control the color changes also work. Yarns with shorter color changes or intense shifts may give the shawl a “messy” look and mask the beauty in the pattern and stitches themselves.
Recommended yarn is somewhere around a 3.0 – 4.5 mm hook size (around a D - G or a 3 – 7) for this shawl.
