Any worsted weight yarn will work for this pattern, however, be mindful that not all WW yarn is created equal…some tend to be a little thinner and some a little thicker, which will affect gauge. Nor is each individual crocheter created equal, also potentially affecting gauge. If you find that when making your swatch you use fewer stitches/rows, you may need to go down a hook size; if you use more, go up a hook size.

Gauge is not imperative in this pattern, it is only given as a guideline. This pattern is a simple repeat of Rows 3 and 4, with each row increasing by 4 sts. It is recommended to count every so often to ensure you are maintaining the correct increase for each row.

Instructions between * * denotes the pattern repeat.

Chain 1 and Chain 2 at the beginning of each row count as a stitch.

The “Point” is defined as the middle stitch in the cluster of 3 SC or DC in the pattern. It is recommended to place a stitch marker in the point to ensure you are placing the increase in the correct stitch.

Amount of yarn suggested is only a guideline and will depend on the tension of the individual crocheter as well as the border choice (SHELL STITCH border will require more yarn than SLIP STITCH or PICOT BORDERS). If in doubt, purchase one extra skein than is suggested.

While both sides appear almost identical, there is a slight difference. The pattern has called for Row 1 as the Right Side and Row 2 as the Wrong Side, but it is ultimately up to the preference of the individual crocheter and will not have any bearing on how the pattern works up.
