Climbing Rose Lace Shawl
This design has been inspired by some vintage round and
square lace doilies that were discovered in a few old knitting
magazines.
Climbing Rose is a half circle shawl that is composed of four wedges; it is worked from the center back of the neck down to the border.
The main motif of the shawl is a rose, bordered with the flourishes. In total, there are 4 repeats creating four large rose motives and 5 border lines of flourishes that come together at the top of the rose motif.
Skill Level: from intermediate to advanced.
Pattern includes charts and chart notes; there are no row-by-row written instructions.
Total rows: 134
Yarn used: Alize Kid Royal (250 meters (273 yards)/25 grams; 62% Mohair, 38% Nylon / Polyamide
The sample required 800 m / 875 yards of yarn.
Finished measurements: 200 cm (78.5”) along the wingspan and 100 cm (39.3”) depth, measured after blocking.
Finished size depends on yarn choice, needle size and your individual manner of knitting. Gauge is not important for this project but will affect the finished shawl size and yardage requirements.
Tools: Size 3 mm (US 2 ½) circular needles; size 1.5 mm crochet hook for binding off; stitch markers.
Please, thoroughly read the knitting instructions before you start working. Print the pattern in the colored version, or highlight the colored areas on the charts (and chart symbols) with the markers of corresponding colors. This will help you to read the charts correctly and keep you from making the unfortunate mistakes while knitting your shawl.
Please, use stitch markers to note the beginning and end of a chart repeats.
Errata! Page 12: summary table of chart symbols & abbreviations 3 stitches out of 6: knit 6 stitches together through the back loop, yo, knit those same 6 stitches together once more, and then drop the original 6 stitches off the left needle.
