Clover Earflap Hat
Clover is a gorgeous little lace earflap hat knitted with Baby Cashmerino yarn. This little hat is a full covering hat with knitted earflaps and soft straps to bow under the chin. It is a relatively easy and repetitive knit, and I hope you enjoy making it as much as I enjoyed designing it.
It is sized for a newborn through to a 48 month old child.

Some requirements you will need:
M a t e r i a l s:
• 1 to 2 balls of Baby Cashmerino, size dependent. The two largest sizes will require you to use a quarter to a half of a second ball. The 6M to 12M size can often require a little more yarn than 1 ball. On occasion I have been short yarn in a ball for this size hat, and then other times, I have had several metres left. So I have suggested having a second ball on hand for this size as well.
If you choose to knit this hat in another 5 ply yarn always knit a test square first.
Cascade 220 Fingering Yarn is a good alternative. You will need the same amount of hanks/balls as Cashmerino as their yardage is virtually the same.
I have also recently made this hat using Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sport, again a 5 ply yarn and it turned out just fine, yardage is more in a ball, so all sized will only require 1 ball with leftover yarn.
N o t i o n s:
• Knitting needles: A pair each of 3mm, 2.75mm and 3.25mm again size dependent.
• Tapestry needle and sharp pointed darning needle and cable needle
F i n i s h e d s i z e s:
NB up to 3M
3M to 6M
6M to 12M
12M to 24M
24M up to 48M
You should have an understanding of basic knitting stitches, increases, decreases, yarn forward/over and standard knitting terms and you should be able to follow a knitting chart or graph as the instructions are in graph form only and not written out row by row.
The hat is knitted flat for ease and simplicity and seamed up the back using mattress stitch.
Something else that should be taken into consideration for the knitting of this pattern. I have noted that the US and Canada do not use a 3mm needle like we do here in Australia, UK and Europe. More serious US and Canadian knitters will have sourced this needle size and have it in their kit already. Some of the 5 sizes are dependent on needle sizes to create the larger or smaller size hats, so it will pay to source out a 3mm needle set.
This needle is one I use quite a bit, so if you continue to buy dover & madden patterns as I release them, you will need this needle quite frequently.
Once paid for this pattern is an instant download, so you will need to make sure you have Adobe installed as this is a PDF file.
