Mosaic & Lace Knits is an introduction to a technique that I have been developing over several years that brings colorwork into lace using slip stitches. Handling only one strand of yarn at a time, no carrying along the row or stranding, allows development of colorwork patterns without any floats running behind your work and obscuring your lace.

One of my favorite ways to wear a scarf is by doubling it over and then pulling the ends through the created loop, but that technique has one undesirable result. One of the “tails” will always have the wrong side facing the world. this scarf is my solution to that problem. By creating two separate tails you can then join them together with the right sides both facing out. once joined, the pattern is continued until you have enough length to double over and form a loop. I think of it as a “self-styling” scarf. Put it on, pull the tails through the loop and you are ready to go.

And of course the ultra soft alpaca will keep you plenty warm while the mosaic and lace manipulate the stitches into a fun and unexpected pattern.

If you would like to see this piece in action you can check out the video pattern tour on my YouTube channel Watch Barbara Knit.

Sample is knit in the colors Caribbean Mix and Seedling Mix, ERRATA you will need two skeins of each color not the one skein stated in the book.
