About the Chinese New Year Blessing 福 (fú) Pattern

The Simplified Chinese character福 (fú) means Blessing or Fortune. During Chinese New Year, many Chinese families would mount square pieces of paper or fabric with the character福 (fú) in their home, as part of the festive décor.
Very often, the character will be inverted when displayed as the phrase for “upside-down福 (fú)” sounds identical to the phrase “Good luck arrives” in Chinese.

This pattern is an attempt to crochet this festive character in tapestry form, to be framed up for display. Great as gifts for family and friends!

Skill Level
Intermediate

Yarn and Hook Size
• Any Red and Yellow yarn

Following yarn and hook size have been used to complete the project:
• 4-Ply Acrylic Yarn: 2.5mm

Finished Size
This pattern has been tested with 4-Ply Acrylic Yarn and the finished size is approximately:
• Length: 20cm
• Breadth: 19cm
