Coachman’s Cove

Knitting a modern ode to a Victorian coachman’s coat. Coachman’s Cove is quite a love affair with cables, lace, and colourwork. The garment is worked top-down and all Fair Isle is worked in the round. Stitches are picked up around the armscyes and seamless set in sleeves are worked downwards and finished with a flair of colorwork and cables.

The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 3.5mm (US 4) 100cm / 40” long circular or DPNs (for ribbing)
Size B: 4mm (US 6) 100cm / 40” long circular, second size B needle of any length
Size C: 4.5mm (US 7) 100cm / 40” long circular (for Fair Isle)

You will also need: 3.25mm (US 3) circular needle for picking up sts around the armscye; 2 × 3cm / 1.25” long toggle buttons (you can use circular buttons, if preferred, but they will need to be approximately 2cm / 0.75” in diameter), 4mm (G‐6) crochet hook for surface crochet; cable needle for cables; spare needles, scrap yarn, or interchangeable cables for holding sts, stitch markers, removable markers.
