Coast Baby Blanket
Many knitters tell me they find knitting with several shades difficult so unlike my other designs I designed this pattern using one shade. Different shades could still be used in this pattern for some of the squares or the edging. It also gave me the opportunity to adapt some of the huge variety of maritime designs from the British isles and Ireland.
There are 13 different designs, many of which derive from traditional fishermen’s ganseys and Aran sweaters and some are my own. The designs vary from very simple to more complicated and for some you will need a cable needle. The construction of the blankets follows the same format as my other baby blanket patterns in that the squares can be knitted in strips bottom to top then sewn together vertically. The edging is sewn on last. The 6 textured squares from the Seaside blanket are repeated here. The pattern instructions are for the blankets as they appear in the images but there is ample scope for re-arranging squares as you wish.
The knitting instructions are for 3 sizes: small (45cm x 60cm), medium (60cm x 75cm) and large (75cm x 75cm). I have used Rowan Cotton Glace again because of its robustness and stitch definition.
