Coastal Calm Blanket
A beautiful coastal inspired crochet blanket made up of 25 squares in total. The sea creature shapes are all cleverly incorporated into the crochet squares. With wave squares, shells, starfish and sea turtles, as well as a traditional granny stitch border, a little coastal calm is enjoyed in this cosy blanket…
Materials I used Filcolana ‘Peruvian’ (100% Peruvian Highland Wool, 50g / 100m) which is a beautiful Aran weight yarn in the following colours and quantities:
Yarn A: French Vanilla (196) 3 balls
Yarn B: Woodland Dawn (356) 2 balls
Yarn C: Alaskan Blue (141) 4 balls
Yarn D: Chai (364) 5 balls
Yarn E: Seafoam (333) 3 balls
Yarn F: Coral (254) 2 balls
• You can use other Aran weight or DK weight yarns to achieve similar results. The thicker the yarn, the larger the blanket will be.
• 5.5mm (US I/9) hook or size to suit tension, stitch marker, yarn The blanket measures approximately 105cm x 105cm (41in x 41in) using Filcolana ‘Peruvian’. You may need a smaller or larger hook than listed depending on your tension and chosen yarn. Using the yarn listed each square measures approximately 18cm x18cm (7in x 7in) using a 5.5mm hook. You may need to use a different hook size to match this tension. Using different yarns may result in a different size blanket.
Pattern Notes
• The blanket is made up of six different square designs which are each crocheted in varying quantities before the total 25 squares are joined together. Fewer squares can also be put together as cushion covers. You don’t have to make the full blanket, and crocheted squares can be used for lots of smaller fun projects!
