Learn how to brioche with our beginner friendly pattern and tutorials! Tutorials for each step of this pattern are included!

DESCRIPTION
Coastal Confessions was designed with beginner briochers in mind! The basic, broken brioche stitch pattern allows knitters to learn the basic brioche stitches, brk and brp, while the intermittent stockinette gives knitters peace of mind that if they drop a brioche stitch, they can easily rip back to a stockinette round to regain their footing.

Coastal Confessions has 3 finishing options, a super chunky moebius cowl, a double thick cowl, and a standard cowl with I-cord edging.

SKILLS NEEDED
This pattern is suitable for an adventurous beginner knitter. It is important that you know the basic knitting stitches - knit and purl - and also how to knit in the round. Tutorials are included for more advanced techniques and transitions.

TUTORIALS

  • How to choose which style cowl to make.
  • How to do a provisional cast-on.
  • How to do the basic brioche stitches: brk and brp.
  • Ways to change the look of your brioche fabric.
  • How to get a neat join at the beginning of the round.
  • How to remove a provisional cast-on.
  • How to do an I-cord bind-off.
  • How to do Kitchener stitch.

INSPIRATION
Coastal Confessions is my nod to winters in the north and the dreary days of January and February that I spend wishing I lived somewhere tropical. In it’s moebius cowl form it is meant to be a thick, cuddly hug on the days where it’s so cold outside that it hurts your nostrils to breathe. Although, you can make it as a double thick or standard cowl to be suitable for spring and fall.

MATERIALS
Any worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors.

YARDAGE
Moebius:
Main Color (MC): 220 g /440 yds (400 m)
Contrast Color (CC): 110 g/220 yds (200 m)*
Double Thick
& Standard:
Main Color (MC): 110 g/220 yds (200 m)
Contrast Color (CC): 55 g/110 yds (100 m)*

NEEDLES
(2) Size 8 (5.00 mm) - 24” circular needles for knitting in the round, or size needed to obtain gauge. Second needle is for grafting your ends together if you’re doing a Moebius or Double Thick cowl. If you don’t have a second Size 8 circular, a Size 7 or 6 will work just as fine for grafting purposes.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Moebius:
Height: 14 in/36 cm Width: 14 in/36 cm*
Double Thick:
Height: 7 in/18 cm Width: 14 in/36 cm*
Standard:

Finished measurements are easily adjustable. Pattern includes information on adjusting the size.

NOTIONS
Scrap yarn for provisional cast-on, (1) stitch marker, tapestry needle for grafting & weaving in ends.
