As always in my pattern designs, I hope to introduce the knitter to a new technique with instructions clear enough for the person using the technique for the first time. This shawl begins with a seed stitch neck tab. After completing the increases there is a slipped stitch design followed by an small eyelet section. The shawl ends with a lace bottom edge.

Because of the slipped stitch design this shawl shows the best with two very contrasting colors tied together with a variegated yarn that incorporates the two contrasting colors.

The inspiration for this shawl came from the beaches along the coastal shores of the Florida Gulf side. In the pink version the Spoonbills found in Florida have a colorway designed around their beautiful feathers.

Measurements:
Center Back / 22 inches
Wingspan / 67 inches
Bottom edge, tip to tip / 90 inches

Yarn:
Fingering weight yarn in 3 colors
• Color One – 425 yards (1 skein Sprout) cast on and top portion
• Color Two – 375 yards (1 skein Semi-solid Sprout) slipped stitch background and bottom lace
• Color Three – 175 yards (3 skeins Semi-solid Sprout Seedlings) slipped stitch top and eyelet
• Small amount of waste yarn for provisional cast on

Needles Used:
• US 8 (5mm) circular minimum length 32” (80cm)
• US 8 (5mm) double point set (optional – for neck tab)
• Crochet Hook G (4mm) – for provisional cast on

Supplies:
• (2) Unique Stitch Markers
• Stitch Markers
• Darning needle

Gauge:
• 2 inches = Approximately 10 stitches and 14 rows
Producing the desired fabric is more important than obtaining
an exact gauge. Adjust yardage accordingly.

Techniques Used:
• Basic stitches
• Picking up Slipped Stitches from previous rows
• Stitches used - knit, purl, yo, k2tog, ssk, k-tbl, M1L, M1R
• Elastic Bind Off
