Coaster Cozy Transitions
Coaster-Cozies – a source of woolen joy with a practical component: insulate hot or cold drinks while protecting tabletops and fingers! This series focuses on designs which start with one color and end with another – a great way to use small amounts of two contrasting yarns. These seven designs are sure to keep things exciting, even when making cozies for all your friends who ask for them—and they will! The best part is that this little project is quick enough that you can make one in one or two evenings.
Pattern is worked top-down, including a closed base that’s as easy as working the crown of a hat. Most coffee cup bases are raised, so you needn’t worry about stability; however, an adaptation is described for working a simple zarf without the base.
The cozy sports a handsomely handy ribbed cuff that can fold down to accommodate a smaller cup.
Yarn: Harrisville Designs Highland (200 yards, 100 grams per hank). You will need a small amount (about 15 grams/30 yards) of two colors. 16 ounce cozies weigh less than 25g.
I highly recommend this lovely 2-ply woolen-spun yarn; it’s got a bit of crunch that quickly softens up with just a little bit of wear or washing. I like to rough it up slightly during the initial wash.
