In a store, I came across the colour gradient yarn Brio by the French company DMC. The yarn reminded me of the lovebirds. A plan formed in my head to use this yarn to knit a little coat with those birds on it for my grandchild. I knitted the coat in rounds with a round yoke. For the jacquard pattern to only be knitted in the knit-rows, I worked in a steek in between the edges of the jacket at the front. I knitted the cuffs and the hems in a herringbone stitch because it reminds me of raffia mats in the tropics and fits with the exotic birds. In order to knit five complete repeats with the canary birds, I decided to knit a coat that works well during the transitioning time. It’s also possible to knit only two repeats of the bird pattern for the bodice and have a shorter jacket as the end result.

In einem Geschäft entdeckte ich die Farbverlauf-Wolle Brio, die mich an die kleinen Papageien „die Unzertrennlichen“ erinnert. Schnell fasste ich den Plan, dieses Garn für einen kleinen Strickmantel voller Vögel für mein Enkelkind zu nutzen. Gestrickt habe ich den Mantel in Runden und mit Rundpasse. Damit das Jacquardmuster nur in rechten Reihen gearbeitet werden kann, wurde ein Steek zwischen die Jackenkanten am Vorderteil gearbeitet. Die Bündchen sind im Fischgrät-Muster gearbeitet, weil mich das an die Bastmatten in den Tropen erinnert und gut zu den exotischen Vögeln passt. Um insgesamt fünf komplette Rapporte mit Papageien arbeiten zu können, habe ich mich für einen Mantel entschieden, der für die Übergangszeit gute Dienste leisten kann. Man kann aber auch nur zwei Rapporte Papageien für den Körper arbeiten und erhält eine kürzere Jacke.
