Clever hands Knitting Pattern 47

My cousin was the inspiration for this striking vest in 8 ply featuring an Australian pink cockatoo. She had requested a vest pattern based on a jumper I had created in the eighties when I was living in Australia. The jumper was originally published in ‘Aussie originals : creative and colourful handknits’ by Annie Reilly; Marianne Kamperman, and Elaine White in 1989. I’ve reworked the jumper into a round neck vest pattern with some adjustments to the graph.

This unique Australian Cockatoo design consists of 2 pieces. The back is worked in stocking stitch in the main colour. The front requires some skill in picture knitting, including following the graph provided and using yarn bobbins for contrast colours.

Materials-
6 (7, 8) x 50g 8 ply Blue or turquoise
1 x 50g 8 ply Brown
1 x 25g 8 ply White & peach
Small amount of 8 ply grey, red/orange, yellow & black.
4 mm & 3.25 mm needles, yarn bobbins, 2 stitch holders, wool needle for sewing, scissors
