Cocoa Rosa
I love making bright wintery accessories to cheer up what often seems like an endless stream of grey days and dark, sober clothing. These little handcoverings function as an instant antidote to the winter blahs, with their rose-inspired stranded motif a reminder of the spring to come.
Instructions are provided for both an open-handed mitt and gloves, choose the coverage (or project intricacy) that suits you best. Both gloves and mitts are knit entirely in the round, requiring no seaming and minimal finishing. Skills required beyond basic knit and purl include increasing, decreasing, and reading a basic color chart.
Sizing: Finished palm circumference measures approximately 6.5 (7, 7.5, 8.25, 8.5)”; 16.5 (18, 19, 21, 21.5) cm. If you are between sizes, knitting the larger size is suggested.
Gauge: 26 sts x 30 rounds = 4” (10cm) in patterned stockinette stitch on US 5 (3.75 mm) needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. Use Chart 2 on page 3 to create patterned stockinette for swatching purposes.
Materials
Yarn: Samples shown are knit using a 50% wool/50% alpaca sport weight yarn with 144 yards (133 meters) per 50g.
For gloves: 125 (140, 150, 175, 200) yards; 114 (128, 138, 160, 182) meters yarn in main color (MC)
For mitts: 100 (115, 125, 140, 150) yards; 92 (106, 114, 128, 138) meters yarn in main color (MC)
For both mitts and gloves: 40 (40, 50, 50, 60) yards; 36 (36, 46, 46, 54) meters yarn in contrast color (CC)
In samples shown, gloves use brown yarn as MC and pink yarn as CC, while mitts use pink yarn as MC and brown yarn as CC.
