Coleman Garden Shawl
Welcome to my very first shawl pattern! This has been a massive work in progress, taking months on and off adjusting each of the smaller patterns then deciding how to put them together in a satisfying layout.
I love working from the point, as it means you make it as large or small as you prefer without deciding from the start!
This pattern includes sample squares to cover how the individual shapes are completed. I recommend using another yarn for these as the design is specifically for 1 Summer Swirl.
Equipment
Below are the materials I used to test this pattern. You may use another yarn and hook of your choice, adjust where you finish depending on your yarn choice.
- 3.5mm hook
- 1x Patons Summer Swirl Or 800m / 200g Fingering (4Ply) yarn
- Scissors & Yarn needle (for sewing in ends)
- Stitch markers / row counter recommended
Difficulty
I used US terminology in all my patterns, you can likely translate easily to other terms as needed. I would count this pattern suitable for Determined Beginners. The stitches are standard, but the rows do get long and no 2 rows are the same.
If you’re new to longer patterns, I would recommend using a cheaper and more user friendly yarn than Summer Swirl as a practice run. Not for the total pattern, but at least until you’re comfortable with the way the designs fit together.
PDF Info
Downloadable files include two versions. They are the exact same, except one has the photos removed; to be more printer friendly. Captions included in place of the images to help referencing back to pattern with photos.
Update July 2024: updated to free pattern as I’m closing my Etsy store and happy for folks to use this as they wish. Happy crafting.
