Designed exclusively for The Greater Vancouver Yarn Crawl 2018 in collaboration with Black Cat Custom Yarn, creator of beautiful, hand dyed yarns.

Coleraine is a shallow, crescent-shaped shawl worked from the top down. Starting at the neck edge with a garter-tab, the body is worked in alternating bands of mesh lace and striped garter stitch. As you work your way downward, increases are made on every row at the side edge. When the body is complete, the knitted-on cable and lace edging is worked sideways to the body.

The shawl features a longer wingspan, while maintaining a relatively shallow body.

The pattern includes row-by-row stitch counts, so helpful when knitting lacework, and step-by-step blocking instructions.

Lace edging is both written and charted format.

As an experienced knitting educator, I write my patterns as a teaching tool. This pattern is 9 pages of thoughtfully-written instructions that teach all the skills necessary to complete the shawl, while answering your knitting questions along the way.

Tips and suggestions compiled in the Helpful Hints Section will pave the way for a pleasurable and “tink-free” knitting experience.

Sincere thanks to my test knitters Charmaine and Nadine and to my Technical Editor and proofreader extraordinaire, Elaine Yee. Your commitment and valuable feedback was greatly appreciated.

Special thanks to Kim Reimer of Black Cat Custom Yarns for creating such wonderfully delicious yarn! Your inspiring colours are truly amazing and the yarn is a pleasure to work with. Every stitch is a joy.

YARN
Black Cat Custom Yarn Everyday Sock (400 yds / 365 m per 115 g skein) or similar Fingering Weight yarn
Shown in colours: Don’t Blink (light; MC) – 300 yds / 274 m; Stainless (dark; CC) – 400 yds / 365 m

Although designed to be worked in two colours, the shawl looks equally beautiful in a single shade.

There is a significant yardage variance in 100 g skeins of Fingering Weight yarn. For CC (dark), select a yarn with a minimum of 400 yds / 375 m per 100 g skein.
