College Girl Cabled Slouchie Hat
Named “College Girl” slouchie as I created the pattern originally because of a special request from my wonderful daughter.
This pattern (all U.S. terms) uses approx. (1) 7 oz. skein of Red Heart with Love, with the example in black. You will need three hooks - H, I, K.
Worked in Rounds, joining at end of every round using a FPDC SS. This hat has a lot of give, yet is extremely plush and warm.
Twisted cables add a “puffy” texture, and are easily worked for first-timers or for those not as experienced with cables, using a standard FPTRC. if you know how to do a front post stitch, and a treble crochet you can do these cables.
The pattern reads a bit complex but once you get into the rhythm and start to see the cables and ribs, you’ll get very comfortable as the “build up” to the slouch is very reptitious and easy to follow. This pattern works up easily in just a few hours.
The three sizes of hooks provide more ease, or slouch, rather than working with multiple increases, or worrying too much about counts on multiple increase rows, as you would find in traditional patterns. The pattern only has ONE round of increased stitch counts, though it gives the appearance of multiple round increases. There are a few quick rounds of decreases to finish the back, which create a pretty flower effect.
The key stitches you should be familiar with are:
DC = Double Crochet
FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet
FPDC2TOG = Front Post Double Crochet 2 Together
FDC3TOG = Front Post Double Crochet 3 Together
BPDC = Back Post Double Crochet
BPDC2TOG = Back Post Double Crochet 2 Together
