These cheery unisex socks feature a lovely himalayan yak / merino blend that contrasts the lovely natural gray of the yak fur with pops of bright color hand-dyed by the talented Micki Landram Christensen of “a thing for string”. This pattern accentuates the color pops by using drop stitch patterns when the color appears and simple stockinette the rest of the time. Instructions are provided on how to work the color sections as they appear based on whether they appear atop the gray, in-process drop stitches, or “finished” drop stitches. To substitute a different yarn, be sure to select a multi-ply sock-friendly fingering weight yarn that is predominantly one color with short sections of accent color.

The pattern describes how to knit these one at a time cuff down on a 9” circular needle, though you can use DPNs or your favorite two-at-a-time technique. Instructions for a gusseted short row heel are provided, though you can substitute another heel if you like.

Options are provided for knitting a “smooth” foot (without the drop stitches) in addition to continuing the color drop sections on the foot (as pictured).

Teen/Adult sizes S, M, L are provided (50, 60, 70 stitch circumference) as well as general guidelines on further size adjustments. Adjusting the sock length is simple and guidance for that is also provided.

Yarn yardage varies with desired length and size selected, approx. 250-400 yds.

Important: Some sections of this pattern describe the manner in which you work the colored sections of yarn but does not provide exact stitches for every row, because this will vary based on variations in the yarn and your gauge. You will learn how to work a stitch based on the color of the working yarn and the color of the stitch to be worked from the previous round rather than following a string “k2, p1, k…” type instruction set. By purchasing this pattern, you acknowledge that you understand the nature of the instructions. I am happy to answer questions and provide assistance if anything is unclear of course!
