This stylish piece can be worn with the buttons front or back - it is an eye-catcher anyway, and it will keep the shoulders warm on all kinds of adventures. You can wear it with a blouse, t-shirt, tank top or camisole, and it will fit under a jacket easily.

Geometrically speaking, this shawlette is an upside-down isosceles triangle with a piece missing in the middle of the top part, like a letter V. You will start knitting at the bottom point of the triangle. The buttons (2 or 4) will be lined up along the right side of the top edge, the buttonholes will be on the left side. Folded over it will be approximately 18 inches (45cm) wide in the shoulders with up to 4 inches (10cm) of ease and 10 inches (25cm) high from points to neckline.

You’ll be using a rather large needle with a relatively small yarn. The fabric is supposed to be very loose, so don’t be alarmed. It is highly recommended to choose lightweight buttons.

This shawlette is worked in garter stitch with a chain edge. The increase is created by yarn-overs. The neckline is created by partial bind-offs from the inside out. The pattern is suitable for adventurous beginners, because of the stitch repetitions, but there’s some shaping involved. In other words: This is a good project to learn how to shape a neckline.
