The “Color Meditation” Shawl is inspired by the unique properties of unspun yarn and offers the perfect invitation to play with its fragility and strength to create something that is impossible to make with spun yarns!

No intrasia techniques are used for this project! The color changes are created by playing with the unique properties of unspun yarn.

This shawl would be a perfect unspun beginner project if you are already familiar with increasing and decreasing techniques.

The “Color Meditation” Shawl is an asymmetrical triangular shawl knitted sideways. Two colored sections are created by treating the unspun yarn in a specific way. As a result, color shifts divide the evenly growing colored sections of the shawl along a contrasting center slip-stitch-line. The shawl is finished with a Picot Bind-Off.
Since this shawl is only knitted in garter stitch, the knitting process becomes quite meditative and intuitive and you can really focus on enjoying the colorways you have picked.

The pattern provides written instructions for the entire process as well as suggestions on changing the size and playing with the color shifts.

MATERIALS
Yarn: Honer och Eir Nutiden unspun held double
Main Color: 200 g
Contrast Color: 120 g
--> It is important to use unspun yarn for this shawl, because the colorchanges require a yarn that is easy to break each row and melt into the fabric without weaving in any ends.

The sample is knitted in the colorways “Omtänksam” as MC and “Varsam” as CC.

Gauge:
blocked and dried: 15 sts x 25 rows = 10x10 cm / 4x4 inches in garter stitch
(unblocked: 16 sts x 29 rows = 10x10 cm / 4x4 inches in garter stitch)
Notes on gauge: Because of the huge difference between the unblocked and the blocked fabric, the pattern gives the unblocked gauge & measurements (below) in addition to the blocked gauge & measurements. This is supposed to help you to end up with your preferred size for the shawl.

Needles: 5.5 mm / US9 needles
