A quick, cozy blanket that can be customized for any gender or decor. This throw started with a modification to a larksfoot stitch -- I altered the pattern to remove the “holes” and replace the extended double crochet with a triple crochet. The result is a fabric that is not truly reversible, but the pattern variation on the “wrong” side is a “dot” pattern that is interesting also.

Although written for a large (almost twin bed sized!) throw suitable for a full-grown man, the size can be adjusted as desired. You can also substitute other yarn weights by adjusting the hook size and number of stitches.

Size:
Approximately 49” x 80” as written with yarn shown.

Materials:

  • 7 balls Bernat Blanket yarn (super bulky, size 6). As shown, 2 skeins each of sand, pumpkin spice, sonoma, and 1 skein of taupe.
  • size 9 mm (M or N, depending on brand) hook

You can use any yarn and a coordinating hook. More or fewer repeats may be needed to obtain the size desired.

Notes on changing the design to make it yours:
You can use these basic stitch patterns and make your own color sequences.  Use as many or as few colors as you want! The pattern offers a few more tips for customizing the design.

You could also work this pattern horizontally instead of vertically.  Chain less to start, then work more rows. Try starting with a foundation of 79 (or chain 81) for an afghan that is approximate 46” wide.
