American crochet terms.

Two patterns - a pretty beanie hat and a matching cowl. They are knit with easily available Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball. The cowl can easily to worked as a long cowl to double around your neck - there is plenty of yarn. The yarn has long color changes

Neither are difficult. The patterns are appropriate for an adventurous beginner with a basic knowledge of crochet.
