The elements: Any 2 complementary color gradients and 1 compatible contrasting or neutral color.
The medium: 1 simple chevron stitch pattern.
The catalyst: 1 playful imagination.
Follow my formulas, or experiment with your own!
Worked flat from one end to the other in a simple chevron stitch.
Make in any length and any width you want. Instructions include specific counts for narrow scarf (wide scarf, stole, shawl). Sample shown is narrow scarf.
Yarn:
Sunday Knits 3 ply (sport weight) yarn in 2 five-color gradients and 1 neutral or contrasting color. Sample shown in Forest creek and Honeysuckle color gradients with Eden 3 ply apricot for contrast.
Substitute any light sport weight yarns in gradient colors: about 50 (95, 140, 185) yds in each of 10 gradient colors and in contrasting color - 550 (1050, 1550, 2050) total yards.
Needles:
Size 7 US / 4.5 mm needles.
Gauge:
22 sts and 28 rows = 4” in Stockinette stitch. Note that this is a looser gauge than is typical for the yarn used.
Or use any weight yarn you wish, working it at whatever gauge and using whichever needle size is right for that yarn.
Techniques used:
Simple increases and decreases, joining colors (with tips and link included).
Pattern includes:
Written instructions, glossary, linked tutorials, color sequence of sample is written, but creating one’s own colorway strongly encouraged.
