………………………….
Stranded knitting is a wonderful way to combine gradient and solid yarns. In these Scandinavian-inspired socks, a simple repeating pattern of roses and stripes is worked in creamy white, and a rose colored gradient yarn fills in the background. The subtle changes in color give the graphic pattern a delicate feel.

NOTES
• The pattern is written for using two short circular needles. The pattern can easily be used for one longer circular needle for the Magic Loop technique (see Glossary) or 5 double-pointed needles. The right and left sock are identical, and each round starts with Needle 1. Needle 1 is for the back of the leg, heel, gusset, and sole, and Needle 2 is for the front of the leg and instep.
• The stranded colorwork pattern is presented in chart form only. All charts are worked from right to left and from the bottom up, with the color for each stitch as shown. The chart for foot length will work well for a foot length up to about 10” (25.5 cm). For a shorter foot, end before the chart is finished. For a longer foot, either continue with additional rounds in MC only or add rounds from each section of the repeating pattern.
• Stranded colorwork can pull in and become inelastic without enough slack in the floats. Make the floats slack and, if in doubt, make them looser than you think they should be. For floats longer than 4 stitches, twist the yarn not in use around the working yarn to avoid long floats.
• For the best result, hold each of the two colors in the same position on your fingers throughout the whole work.
• The heel and toe are worked with the main color only. For this, use a smaller needle.
