This is a perfect simple pattern for crochet beginners. It teaches waffle stitch using a combination of trebles and chain. It also teaches how to change colour in a simple manner. It is designed to give confidence to the beginner and yet provide a finished item with a bit of style and colour.

Tension is not particularly important as this is a scarf, although neatness and uniformity are to be desired. It is more important for the beginner to enjoy practising this skill and be proud of the result.
