Colour Gradient Hat
Wikipedia says ”In computer graphics, a colour gradient specifies a range of colours usually used to fill a region. The colours produced by a gradient vary continuously producing smooth colour transitions.”
This is the idea I had with this design. I wanted the effect to be that the colours blended together giving an ombré look, especially from a distance.
The model for this hat is a straight hat with crown decreases. The hat can be blocked into a beanie or a more slouchy version like in the pictures. There are three sizes included to fit head sizes from 50cm to 60cm, and they are knit with negative ease.
You will need sport weight merino yarn, 15-25 grams each of four colours. The gauge is 30 stitches and 31 rows in 10 cm, after blocking. Before blocking your gauge should be around 32-34 stitches in 10 cm. Merino yarn is very stretchy when wet, therefore the gauge can change a lot during blocking. This also means that the stranded knitting will even out significantly during blocking. Therefore this pattern is suitable for beginners of stranded knitting.
