This design reminds me of primary school art class where on a sheet of paper we made blocks of colours with crayons, then coloured over the top with black crayon. We then scratched off some of the black crayon to reveal the colours hidden below. Did you, or do you remember doing this?

The pattern is written for both cuff down with a Strong heel or toe up with a heel flap and gusset. These colour work socks are easy and fun.
This design lends itself to using many combinations of yarns; use scraps or minis for each set of motifs, or a self striping or a gradient. The only limit is your imagination and what yarns you have to hand. Have fun as the colours are revealed.

Sizes
Small (64 sts),
Medium (72 sts),
Large (80 sts)
Yarn
Fingering weight sock yarn. For all sizes I would suggest 100 g of main colour and 50-60 g for the contrast colour.
Needles
2.25 mm/US1 needles for working small circumference in the round (or size required to achieve gauge).
Gauge
36 sts/40 rounds = 10 cm/4 inches measured over colour work section. Gauge is measured after washing and laying flat to dry.

The instructions for the construction of the socks are written and the colour work pattern is charted.
