This cushion is worked flat in two pieces, and is shaped into a circle using short rows.

The front segments are knitted in twelve colours to show the primary, secondary and tertiary colours in the colour wheel, each segment separated by two rows of stocking stitch in black.

A narrow edging is worked on picked up stitches around the circumference of the front.
The back is knitted in black throughout.

After sewing up the cast-on and cast-off edges to form a circle, the back is attached behind the front edging, leaving a gap which is closed after the cushion pad has been inserted. Finally, two buttons are tightly sewn to the centre of the cushion and pompoms are attached around the edge.

I have also included information about the colour wheel and how to use this useful tool when choosing colours for your knitting projects. And also, there are some tips about how to use stash yarns in this design.

If you are using a different yarn to the one suggested, you will need approx 230m in MC and 20m each of 12 shades in DK yarn.

You will need:
Pair 4mm needles, straight
4mm circular needle, minimum length 80cm
2 buttons, 3cm in diameter
Circular cushion pad, 46cm in diameter
Tapestry needle
Mattress needle or extra long tapestry needle
Pompom maker, 3.5cm in diameter
