This pattern features skulls and maple leaves, and takes its name from a 19th century song about the War of 1812.

Come all ye bold Canadians,
I’d have you lend an ear
Unto a short ditty
Which will your spirits cheer…

I recommend making this hat and wearing it while loudly singing the above song, followed by the national anthem, The Last Saskatchewan Pirate, Canada’s Really Big, and The War of 1812.

The pattern calls for sport weight yarn in the following quantities:

Main Colour (red) 110 m/120 yards
Contrast Colour 1 (grey) 90 m/99 yards

The sample hat was knitted in Rauma Finullgarn, 175m/50g. Finull is a woollen-spun rustic Norwegian yarn that knits up much more robustly and thickly than a worsted-spun Merino yarn of the same yardage and weight.

P.S. If you misread the pattern name, rest assured this hat is also very suitable for bald Canadians.
